The Eckerd College John Satterfield
Outstanding Mentor Award
Throughout a student's career at Eckerd, each student has the continuing support and counsel of a faculty mentor who is specially trained to help each student plan an academic program, to help with career planning and with the student's personal growth. A student’s relationship with her or his mentor is often a hallmark of the Eckerd experience. John Satterfield is fondly remembered by our founding students as a Professor who could inspire, educate and guide students with equal adeptness. While at Eckerd College and after he left, Professor Satterfield embodied the spirit of the mentoring relationship. The purpose of the Satterfield Mentor award is to honor the special and vital role of the mentor in a student’s life at Eckerd College.
The selection of the recipient for this award is based on the profound and lasting impact the mentor had or has had on his or her mentees in the areas of academic programming, career planning and personal growth. The award is made possible by the generosity of a member of the College’s Board of Trustees, Bud Risser, whose concern for excellence in mentoring reflects his understanding of and commitment to the central role of that relationship in a student’s life.
The recipient of this award receives a citation and a check.
